Postmortem: Peach Boys

[this is a bit late lol. it will also spoil Peach Boys very heavily, so only read if you have completed the game]

this game took forever. I swear its the longest amount of time I spent on a game. not because it was especially hard, or very lengthy, but rather I structured it in a way that made me not interested in working with it. I tend to write better if theres no outline and this game did have one. this games story was mostly set in stone because its based off of NPCs from a tabletop I ran with my friends. if I deviated from the predetermined story altogether it would basically become fanfiction, which I did not want to portray. so, I had to take my time and get it in little bursts, including a little bit of original content here and there to spice things up.

art for the game was easy, music took a while simply because I wanted to perform my own for once rather than stealing anime/video game songs like I usually did. I wanted to get a laidback surfer tone, and I think I did ok. I put a lot of effort into the Peach Boys cover songs and they barely appeared lol. this game was supposed to have much more freedom for the players to wander around but in the end it was too much work and I had to cut down so much.

there is a lot in the game that would make no sense to the average player, as this was a game about characters from a tabletop. MouthSmash was the player characters who basically acted as villains. the randomness of the murders were genuine in both the lives of both bands, albeit there were signs this would happen on both ends. I used actual characters, actual song titles, and actual spoken lines from the people involved in the game to make the game more fitting, and in the end I really like how it came out.

the setting of Musician's Stories is one ive played many games in but have never made much public about. I hope to publish more about it. as this is the first time anything about it has become publish im sure so much of it is confusing. I can only hope it will make sense with time.
